The Minister of Health and Child Care, Dr Douglas Mombeshora, led an official inspection tour of Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals in Harare today, reviewing the progress of the government-driven refurbishment projects aimed at revitalising the nation’s flagship public health facility.
Accompanied by the Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Dr Jenfan Muswere, and Permanent Secretaries Dr Aspect Maunganidze (Health) and Mr Nick Mangwana (Information), Dr Mombeshora’s visit focused on key infrastructure upgrades designed to enhance healthcare delivery in Zimbabwe.
A highlight of the inspection was the Mbuya Nehanda Maternity Home, currently undergoing transformation into a modern, state-of-the-art maternity facility. The refurbishment aims to improve maternal and neonatal services, ensuring better outcomes for mothers and babies across the country.
The delegation also assessed renovations at the trainee nurses’ residence, an important facility that supports the training and accommodation of nursing professionals. Upgrading this residence is expected to contribute positively to workforce development in the health sector.
This inspection follows President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s recent tour of major referral hospitals in Harare, reinforcing the government’s dedication to strengthening Zimbabwe’s healthcare infrastructure as part of a broader national development agenda.
The refurbishment of Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals is a critical component of efforts to improve service delivery, modernise medical facilities, and ultimately enhance the quality of care provided to the public. The government’s sustained investment in healthcare infrastructure signals a commitment to addressing the country’s health challenges and supporting frontline medical workers.
