Government to Officially Open Mbare Computer Information Centre as Part of Renewal Project

The Zimbabwean government is set to officially open the much-anticipated Mbare Computer Information Centre, a key milestone under the ongoing Mbare Renewal Projects. The centre is designed to empower the local community, especially young people, by providing access to digital resources and fostering technology-driven development.

Minister of Information Communication Technology, Postal and Courier Services, Tatenda Mavetera, will officiate at the event as the guest of honour. The opening ceremony will also be attended by Deputy Minister of Local Government, Public Works and National Housing, Albert Mavunga, as well as officials from the Harare Metropolitan Provincial Affairs and Devolution office.

The Mbare Renewal Projects are a government initiative aimed at revitalizing the historic Mbare suburb through infrastructure development, community empowerment, and improved access to essential services. The launch of the Mbare Computer Information Centre marks a significant step towards bridging the digital divide in one of Harare’s oldest and most populous communities.

Minister Mavetera emphasized the importance of digital literacy in today’s fast-changing world, noting that the new centre will provide vital opportunities for Mbare residents to gain computer skills, access the internet, and explore online learning platforms.

The centre is expected to serve as a hub for digital innovation, offering computer training programs, internet access, and workshops that promote entrepreneurship and digital skills among youth. This initiative aligns with the government’s broader goal of advancing Vision 2030 by fostering ICT development at the grassroots level.

The official opening of the Mbare Computer Information Centre is seen as a positive step towards community empowerment and capacity building, equipping local residents with the tools they need to participate in the digital economy.
