Shamblo Ignites Sungura Scene with New Single Terera

Bulawayo-based guitarist, songwriter, and producer Elphas Mashamba, widely known as Shamblo, has captivated sungura fans with his latest single, Terera, released on 5 February 2026. The track showcases crisp production, authentic sungura rhythms, and Shamblo’s signature guitar skills. Listeners have praised the song online for its technical finesse and melodic flow, highlighting how it blends traditional elements with modern studio polish. Shamblo’s reputation as a reliable performer and producer for emerging artists adds weight to the release, making Terera a standout in contemporary sungura.

Dzimbabwe Intertainment commended the single on Facebook, noting that Shamblo preserves the true essence of sungura while refining the sound for modern audiences. Fans across Southern and East Africa, including South Africa, Botswana, Rwanda, Tanzania, and Mozambique, responded positively, describing the track as “clean”, “technical”, and “sweet”. Orchestra Mberikwazvo guitarist Noel Nyazanda also praised the arrangement, highlighting the new sounds and vocal performance. The track’s lead guitar drives the composition, creating a balance between traditional sungura melodies and contemporary music production.

Born on 25 January 1995 in Jerera, Zaka, Shamblo lost his father, a respected guitarist, at age eight. He began playing guitar in Grade Five, inspired by his father’s instruments, and developed his skills under Michael Chapanduka, performing even at traditional gatherings. Shamblo’s musical foundation strengthened during his time with Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Services (ZPCS), where he joined the ZPCS Band and the ZCC Brass Band under FL Changundega, the arranger of Zimbabwe’s national anthem. This period helped him refine technical skills and stage presence.

Before embarking on his solo career, Shamblo collaborated with prominent artists such as Baba Harare, Obert Chari, Hilton Chimedza, and Nutty O. Since 2017, he has released 15 solo tracks, each reflecting his evolving style and commitment to authentic sungura. Terera stands out as a fusion of melodic tradition and contemporary sound, cementing his place as a leading figure in modern Zimbabwean music. Fans and critics alike anticipate further releases as Shamblo continues to elevate the genre.

Shamblo’s approach to Terera demonstrates a dedication to preserving sungura heritage while pushing its boundaries. The song appeals to both longtime fans of the genre and new listeners seeking polished, high-quality music. With growing recognition across the region, Shamblo is establishing himself as a key influencer in the evolution of Zimbabwean popular music. His work balances technical expertise, cultural authenticity, and modern production standards, making Terera a benchmark for future sungura releases.
