Zimbabwe Commemorates Men’s Day, Honours the Role of Men in Nation Building

The Ministry of Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare marked Men’s Day with a powerful commemoration on Wednesday, celebrating the vital role men play in society and renewing the call for greater support of their health and well-being. The event also served as the official close of Men’s Month in Zimbabwe, gathering government officials, stakeholders, and community members to spotlight issues affecting men today.
In her address, Deputy Minister Advocate Mercy Dinha paid tribute to the often-overlooked sacrifices and contributions made by men across the country. “The various roles you play, the different hats you wear, the responsibilities you carry, and the sacrifices you make are all acknowledged,” she said. “You are the pillars of strength that provide stability and security for your families and the nation at large.”
The event underscored the growing need to prioritise men’s health—both physical and mental. Advocate Dinha stressed that stress and poor mental health can significantly affect men’s productivity, relationships, and overall well-being.
“Men’s health is a critical issue that contributes to productivity in any organisation. Stress can have devastating effects on men’s mental health,” she noted. “We encourage men to practice healthy coping strategies, including exercise, mindfulness, and speaking out when support is needed.”
Adv Dinha further called on the public to help dismantle harmful stereotypes that prevent men from seeking medical or emotional support. She emphasised the importance of open dialogue, supportive workplaces, and inclusive policies that champion the rights and wellness of men as part of broader social development.
“As Government, we promise to stand by you and support you as we walk the journey together towards achieving our country’s Vision 2030,” she said. “Let us celebrate the selfless love and dedication of men. May we continue to build a society that values and supports men at the workplace and in our homes.”
The Men’s Day commemoration also aligned with Zimbabwe’s wider goals of promoting gender equality and fostering shared responsibility across communities. It provided a renewed platform to challenge stigma, encourage help-seeking behaviours, and promote the holistic development of all citizens.
With Vision 2030 in mind, the Ministry reaffirmed its commitment to creating an inclusive, empowered, and balanced society—where the contributions of men are recognised and their health and well-being prioritised.
