Bushiri finally tastes freedom
Prophet Bushiri and his wife finally lapped the sweet taste of freedom yesterday after being granted bail. The man of cloth and his prophetess wife had languished in prison for nearly two weeks and missed two Sunday services. Bushiri and his wife and two other accomplices are facing a series of criminal charges including fraud and money laundering.
The prophet garnered support from his followers and congregants who came out in large numbers to show support at the Pretoria Magistrates court.
Bushiri’s bail bid had been postponed twice. His loyal followers said they were praying for his release. Even his arch nemesis pastor Mboro came to court in his last appearance to offer some support. The pastor said it was not a publicity stunt and he had not been paid to make that appearance. He alluded to the fact that he had dreamt of Bushiri being granted bail and he had prayed about it.
Zimbabwean prophet Uebert Angel had also asked for prayers in order for Bushiri to be released. Bushiri is alleged to have swindled thousands of people including some of his own congregants, over 102 million rands. Most people are pregnant with anxiety to know if he will walk out a free man after his imminent trial.
The man of cloth is originally from Malawi. He has however made his mark in South Africa where he commands a large following. The accusations levelled against him have not done much to deter his loyal supporters as evidenced by the massive show of support. His accomplices are also set to make their bail applications soon
