Domestic topflight football in Zimbabwe is set to resume early next month after the custodians of the country’s flagship competition the Premier Soccer League (PSL) announced the new date for the resumption of the game.

Zimbabwe last played a league match on November 15, 2019 and ever since then has been no meaningful competition to talk about until the introduction of the Chibuku Super Cup earlier this year which was then postponed again in June before it could be continued a few weeks ago.

Initially set to commence on the 29th of this month, the topflight league had to be postponed owing to some logistical challenges leaving the authorities that be to deliberate on another date.

In a communiqué released today (Friday), the PSL announced the premier football competition will kick off on Saturday 6 November, 2021.

“The 2021/22 Castle Lager Premier Soccer League is set to commence on Saturday 6 November 2021. The league will break in December for the holidays and resume in February 2022 after the Africa Cup of Nations matches. The PSL urges clubs and stakeholders to strictly adhere to COVID-19 protocols to ensure that our stadia remain safe during this pandemic,” the statement read.

Following this correspondence, the PSL has also released the fixtures to enable clubs to prepare for the much-awaited competition.

Meanwhile, topflight league football continues with the Chibuku Super Cup quarter finals set for the Baobab Stadium in Mhondoro Ngezi this weekend.

On Saturday, Chicken Inn clash against Ngezi Platinum Stars in a tea-time kick off before FC Platinum lock horns with Highlanders in the afternoon to complete the double header while Cranborne Bullets take on Harare City as Dynamos face off with Black Rhinos on Sunday.
