Danai Gurira causes social media buzz

Hollywood based Zimbabwean actor Danai Gurira today hogged the limelight after appearing at the Oscars in a gold strapless Brock Collection foil gown with a black trimming and a matching headband.

Gurira was the talk of the night with an exquisite look which made her look like a true goddess. The braids were created by Larry Sims a celebrity hairstylist, who created the look by placing cornrows at the front of Gurira’s head before adding single braids to the back half and accessorizing with a gold headband to match her dress.

Social media was on Monday awash with several comments that hailed the stunning look by Gurira who was among those that attended the 91st grammy awards.

Gurira’s presence at the Oscars was as a result of Black Panther, a film which captured the imagination of millions of viewers upon its release.The record-breaking box office hit racked up a whopping seven Academy Award nominations. It is the first comic book film to be nominated in the Best Picture category, and is also nominated for Best Sound Mixing, Best Sound Editing, Best Original Score, Best Costume Design, Best Production Design, and Best Original Song for Kendrick Lamar and SZA’s “All the Stars.”

Although the storyline centers around T’Challa / Black Panther (Chadwick Boseman) and Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan), the ensemble cast boasts a strong female presence from Gurira’s portrayal of warrior Okoye to Angela Bassett’s regal performance of Queen Ramonda. 

While she is renowned for her acting prowess Gurira on Monday hogged the limelight more for the exquisite look that impressed those that had an opportunity of getting a glimpse of her.
