Football Fever Ignites Midlands as ZIFA Launches FIFA Football for Schools Project

Football fever has officially gripped the Midlands province as the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) launches the ambitious FIFA Football for Schools (F4S) programme, aiming to transform grassroots football and nurture the next generation of football stars.

Schools across Gokwe, Kwekwe, Mvuma, Gweru, Shurugwi, Mberengwa, and Zvishavane have recently received a fresh shipment of footballs, marking a significant step toward unlocking young talent and spreading the passion for the beautiful game deep into Zimbabwe’s most remote corners.

“It’s more than just handing out footballs,” said a ZIFA spokesperson. “It’s about giving every child, no matter where they are, the chance to dream, play, and grow through football.”

The F4S initiative, backed by FIFA, is designed to empower children through sport while promoting inclusion in communities that have historically been left behind in the national football conversation. ZIFA is committed to turning dusty, often overlooked playgrounds into fertile grounds where future national team players will be born.

This latest rollout forms part of a broader vision to ensure that football reaches every child across Zimbabwe, not just those in urban centres. With FIFA’s support, ZIFA is laying the groundwork for a future where footballing stars emerge from every province, strengthening the country’s talent pipeline and enriching the game nationwide.

Across the Midlands, football boots are being laced, balls are bouncing, and dreams are beginning to take shape. With the FIFA Football for Schools project gaining momentum, the beautiful game is truly on its way to becoming a unifying force for Zimbabwe’s youth. The game is on!
