Zimbabwe Ministry of Youth, Indigenisation and Economic Empowerment: Youth Department Responsibilities
The Department of Youth is responsible for promoting and implementing policies and programmes for the creation of an enabling environment and opportunities for the development and empowerment of all Zimbabwean youths for nation building. The key focus areas for the department are: youth participation and leadership development as well as vocational skills training and entrepreneurship skills development.
Key functions of the Youth department:
- Mainstreaming youth in all national development policies and programmes
- Implementation of National Action Plan
- Development of Youth database and information management system
- Facilitate research and development on youth issues
- Development and implementation of the National Youth Service Legal Framework
- Engaging youth in voluntary community development and public works
- Implement entrepreneurship development programmes for youth graduates
- Organise youth leadership development programmes
- Facilitate youth participation in national, regional and international youth events
- Create market linkages for youth products
- Develop and review curricula for Vocational skills training programs
- Develop and implement Broad based youth empowerment programme based on the Training for Rural Economic Empowerment (TREE) model
- Conduct Integrated Skills Outreach Programme (ISOP) in each ward
- Establish youth centres in every district
- Facilitate research and development on youth issues
- Expanding youth skills training centers paying special attention to entrepreneur skills development, relevant farming and incubation and attachment options
