We might not be where we want to be and we still have a lot of work to do in our entertainment and arts industry when comparing to other African countries but we’ve come a long way to be where we are now. The great news is there is a new generation on the rise, young people who are not afraid to express themselves in their respective fields of entertainment.
These people below are taking over the world and putting us on the map and they are the people every Zimbabwean should know.
1. NoViolet Bulawayo– NoViolet is a writer. Her debut novel “We Need New Names” came out in 2013 and in 2011 she won the Caine Price for Africa Writing, for her short story “Hitting Budapest”.
2. Prudence Mabhena- Prudence Mabhena is a disabled singer, her documentaryMusic By Prudence, which won an Oscar for best documentary at the Academy awards in 2010 is an inspiring story about Liyana, a band of 8 Zimbabwean students with varying disabilities who came second in an ALL African music competition.
3. Vimbai Mutinhiri- Vimbai has become one of the in-demand television presenters in Africa. She became the first host for the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards.
4. Priscilla Chigariro- She is an international model turned fashion entrepreneur.Priscilla is the founder of Bitter Candy, an interior design company and the creator and executive producer of Zimbabwe Fashion Week.
5. Farai Gundan- ATV and radio personality, blogger, Farai owns an online and mobile advertising platform focusing on Africa called Farai Media. In 2013 she was in the list of 30 under 30 Africa’s Best Young Entrepreneurs.
