Breaking news: Marry Chiwenga granted bail.
Marry Chiwenga, the enstranged wife of the vice president Constantino Chiwenga has just been granted bail. The former beauty queen was granted the temporary relief by high court judge Justice Kwenda who had reserved judgment in order to fully go through the papers filed by both the applicant’s lawyers and the state. Chiwenga was represented by Advocate Hashiti and Advocate Kachambwa.
Marry is facing attempted murder charges as well as separate charges of money laundering and fraud. Among her bail conditions are provisions to report once a fortnight at Borrowdale police station, to surrender her diplomatic passport, to reside at her given address in Borrowdale and not to interfere with state witnesses.
Marry has been languishing at Chikurubi female prison ever since her arrest in early December. She is alleged to have attempted to kill her husband when he was hospitalized in South Africa last year. She is also accused of having laundered funds amounting to US 1 million dollars. Her father Kenny Mubaiwa said that justice will prevail and pleaded his daughter’s innocence.
