Top 5 arrests made by ZACC in 2019.

The Zimbabwe Anti corruption commission was established to deal with corruption cases in Zimbabwe by nabbing those involved in illicit corrupt activities. Since the appointment of High court judge Justice League Matanda Moyo, the commission has been hard at work, arresting top government officials and promising more arrests as they work to eliminate the scourge of corruption that is so rampant in the country.

Here are some of the most prominent arrests made during the course of this year.

1 Prisca Mupfumira

The former minister of tourism and hospitality was forced to eat humble pie as we was arrested for swindling NSSA of over US 95 million. This is alleged to have occurred when she was still the Minister of labor. Mupfumira is alleged to have corruptly dipped her fingers into the coffers of state pensioners treating herself to properties in the Uk, Dubai and Zimbabwe. Her case is not yet finalized and she has been denied bail several times.

2 Phelekezela Mphoko

The former vice president of Zimbabwe was arrested for criminal abuse of office it being alleged that he ordered the release of a Zinara official from custody without lawful authority when he was still the president’s right hand man. Mphoko was picked up by ZACC officers in Bulawayo and his case is yet to be heard. He is however out on bail.

3 Victoria falls town clerk Ronnie Dube

The town clerk of Vic falls was arrested for suspiciously allocating himself 15 000 hactares of land. He was later freed on rtgs 500 bail. Other council officials arrested on similar charges are Chitungwiza mayor lovemore Maiko, councillor Kudakwashe John and works director David Duma.

4 Presidential scholarship officials

Oliver Mucherwa, Gidknows Mupera and Silent Mubariki were all arrested for doctoring an invitation to Fort Hare University. The trio is part of the top officials in the office of the president on scholarships. They are said to have falsely claimed that a two day invitation was actually seven days in order to cash in on travel allowances.

5Douglas Tapfuma

The former director of state residences was also nabbed by ZACC for criminal abuse of duty. He is alleged to have imported personal vehicles and misrepresented that they belonged to the government in order to avoid paying import duty.
